Comedy Stage gets underway
Amid the high-profile music acts, festivalgoers can slow things down and have a laugh at the COmedy Arena, which gets opens at 1.30pm on Saturday and runs until 9pm.
Headlining on Saturday is the peerless Russell Howard, one of the world's top comedians and the undoubted, uplifting comedy king. Apparently ageless, hugely physical, his relentlessly funny performances have been a mainstay of TV schedules for more than 15 years, with his infectious humor, genuine personality and ability to connect with audiences on a deep level, he has become one of the most beloved and respected comedians in the world.
BAFTA-winning comic, Iain Stirling, best known as the brilliantly funny voice of the hit reality show Love Island, is also on the bill for Saturday. At his best the Edinburgh native is an unhinged free-form anecdotal fest. Along with his life partner Laura Whitmore, their award-winning podcast 'Partners in Crime' chronicles the most infamous and bizarre cases in true crime history.
Ireland's sweetheart Deirdre O'Kane is another comic lined up for Saturday that is well worth checking out. She a huge list of acting credits, but she has never strayed too far from her live stand-up roots and is an instantly charismatic stage presence who dazzles the audience from start to finish.
Saturday weather at Electric Picnic
Festival goers are in luck as decent weather is forecast throughout the weekend.
According to weather guru Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather, temperatures on Saturday are expected to stay around 19C or 20C with more cloud around at night, with "only a very small chance of a passing shower" amid sunny spells.
Any showers that do arrive will "clear off very quickly" and the weather "should hold mainly dry until Monday lunchtime", by which time many of the thousands of music fans will have begun to make their journey home from what should be the highlight of the Irish festival season.
