Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway featured a rather expensive blunder during tonight's (March 7) episode.

The opening segment of the ITV show saw the two presenters messing about in the audience with their own studio-sized handheld cameras, but as the music died down and they readied themselves for tonight's antics, Ant McPartlin decided to pass his camera back to one of the crew members.

Only he didn't simply hand it over โ€“ he chucked the thing into the air and expected the co-worker to catch it.

As you've probably guessed by now, things didn't turn out the way Ant had hoped.

The camera wasn't caught cleanly and instead it crashed to the studio floor, breaking into several pieces as the presenter looked on slightly embarrassed.

Ever the professional, Ant continued like it wasn't that much of a big deal, but we can't help but wonder whether this'll be coming out of his wage packet this month.

Naturally, Saturday Night Takeaway viewers couldn't quite believe what they'd just witnessed.

Many questioned whether it was merely a fake prop, but the awkwardness that ensued once this happened suggests it probably wasn't.
