Saul Niguez has sparked transfer speculation by teasing that he will name his "new club" on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old Atletico Madrid midfielder has been linked with Manchester United and Arsenal, with reports from Spain suggesting the Spain international could be available for £70million - less than half his £130m release clause.

Standard Sport understands Saul is not currently on United's shortlist, but that hasn't dampened the transfer frenzy as the guessing game begins over what the midfielder's social media shenanigans actually mean.

In a vague tweet on Sunday afternoon, Saul posted on his official Twitter page: "Communication. I wanted to communicate something important to you."

He then attached an image, in both Spanish and English reading: "NEW CLUB. I'll announce it 3 days..."

Following Saul's message, Rio Ferdinand quote-tweeted him with an emoji of a pair of eyes to add a little more drama.

Needless to say, that tweet set off United fans who are hoping the big announcement will go their way.

United are currently among the favourites to sign Saul, though rivals Man City are top of the pile.
