The 58-year-old actress was most recently spotted on screen gracing the streets of Walford in EastEnders as newcomer Alison Slater. But she snuck over to Los Angeles and is cooking up a plan to bag herself work whilst she’s out there.

She told The Sun newspaper: “I really love it out here [US] and I am going to try to get some auditions and see if I can get some roles. I have got nothing to lose. I have seen a lot of British actresses come over here and pick up really strong work. In England most people see me as a tart with a heart, but here I start with a fresh slate.”

Denise – who played Natalie Barnes in Coronation Street from 1997 to 2000, starred in Waterloo Road as Steph Haddock until 2010 and ended her run on the Loose Women panel in 2013 – isn’t afraid to throw herself into the deep end and plans to give it everything she’s got in the US.

She added: “I feel really relaxed about it and it will great experience to meet with casting agents here. I am interested in anything from TV to films. I feel there are so many different projects that are mad here, that there is an opportunity to prove I can do a diverse role.”

Denise is lucky enough to have her son, The 1975 rocker Matt Healy, for moral support while she’s there, as he’s also in town working on music projects.

Speaking of the 27-year-old talented musician, she said: “He loves it out here too, and we just seem to make so many friends.”

We look forward to seeing Denise on telly soon as Phil Dunphy’s British cousin in Modern Family, or Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren’s new lover in Orange is the New Black, perhaps?
