Scandal boss talks possible return for Olivia PopeAMC

Scandal boss Shonda Rhimes has teased the possibility of Kerry Washington's fan-favourite character Olivia Pope returning.

The iconic political fixer appeared across the show's seven seasons between 2012 and 2018, though showed potential to cross over into other Shondaland shows with an appearance on How to Get Away with Murder season 4.

Speaking to IMDb, Rhimes was asked of all the characters she has created, who she would like to appear in a present or future show of her's.

“Olivia Pope, I like that character so much," the producer replied. "Even when she was bad, I liked that character so much – she’s very interesting.”

Back when the show came to an end five years ago, Rhimes reflected on Pope and working with Washington over the years.

"It's funny," she told E! News. "We were just talking about something and I just leaned over and I said to her, 'You have no idea how much I've learned from you'. She looked at me like I was crazy!

"It's interesting because we had such a close relationship that I'm not even sure I can enumerate all the things that I learned from her… I think I would still be a very introverted, shy person if it weren't for Kerry.

"She's helped me come out of my shell in many, many ways."

Washington, meanwhile, said of playing the role: "I think playing Olivia has really taught me a lot about resilience and about strength, about courage. I think her fearlessness has really helped me to face a lot of adventures in life that I'm not sure I would have otherwise."

Rhimes's show Bridgerton seasons 1-2 are streaming now on Netflix, along with Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
