A SCHOOL in Winsford is closed today, Thursday, due to a lack of water.

Winsford Academy, located in Grange Lane, has confirmed it will be closed on March 23 after a fire in nearby Abbotts Way yesterday afternoon.

The fire service took hold of the water supply to fight the flames – which affected a house and two flats and there is now a lack of water.

Emergency services – including six fire engines, police and paramedics - rushed to the scene shortly after 1.30pm.

A number of homes were evacuated, with police closing roads and setting up a cordon.

Four people were injured as a result of the incident, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A statement from Winsford Academy reads: “Apologies, we have had to close the school today due to a lack of water.

“This relates to the fire service having to take primary hold of the water service following the event that took place in the community yesterday.”
