School pays tribute to 'bright and cherished' boy who died at Glasgow trampoline park
Heartbroken teachers have paid tribute to a "bright and cherished" pupil who died in a tragic incident at Flip Out near Glasgow.
The 10-year-old, who has not been named, passed away following an incident at the trampoline park on Southcroft Road in Rutherglen, just before 11am on Sunday. Ambulance crews attended and the young boy was rushed to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow where he was sadly pronounced dead.
The youngster was a pupil in the South Lanarkshire Council area and his teachers have now paid tribute in a statement released to the Record.
A spokesperson for the school said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened to share the heartbreaking news of the sudden passing of one of our pupils. He was a bright and cherished member of our school community. He touched the lives of all staff with his humour, joy and curiosity.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time. He will be dearly missed and will forever hold a special place in our hearts.”
Police Scotland confirmed that there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, however their investigation remain ongoing. The local community were left shattered by the tragic news and tributes were paid on social media.
One friend of the family said: "Sleep tight. Absolutely heartbreaking. Sending my love and strength to your mummy and your family."
Another added: "I can't believe it. It's awful! Poor [mum]. That boy was everything to her xxx."
A third added: "I've been thinking about this poor family all day today absolutely heartbreaking. Sending all my love and thoughts to the family x."
On Monday the team at Flip Out shared a statement saying that were "profoundly saddened" by the incident before confirming that they could be closed for up to seven days.
The Health and Safety Executive have been informed and the trampoline park says it will "fully cooperate" with the police in their investigation.
A Flip Out spokesperson said: "The police have advised we could be closed for up to seven days to investigate. We cannot comment further while the investigation is underway."
Trampoline park bosses previously wrote on social media: "A 10-year-old child became unwell just after 9am. Emergency services were promptly contacted, and the child was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children, where, sadly, they were later pronounced dead.
"The Health and Safety Executive have been informed, and at this time, there are no indications of suspicious circumstances. We are fully cooperating with Police Scotland in their investigations.
"We are profoundly saddened by this tragic event, and our deepest sympathies go out to the child's family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries are ongoing after a child took unwell at a premises in Southcroft Road, Rutherglen shortly before 11.00am on Sunday, August 18 2024. The child, a ten-year-old boy, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Children where he was pronounced dead.
“The child’s death is being treated as unexplained, although there are not thought be any suspicious circumstances, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. Glasgow City Council has also been notified.”
