School Principal Apologises For Racist Remark

A school principal has apologised over a racist remark she made during a high school graduation ceremony in Georgia.

Nancy Gordeuk, principal of the TNT Academy in Stone Mountain, was captured on video making the remark as she criticised students for leaving the ceremony early before the class valedictorian could make his speech.

In the footage, Ms Gordeuk can be seen criticising the behaviour of the audience and calling an unidentified person a "little coward" as people begin to walk out.

She said: "I think you all owe this young man an apology, especially that goober that was coming through here with his little thing.

"You're the rudest people I've ever seen in my life.

"You people are being so rude to not listen to this speech.

"It was my fault that we missed it in the programme. Look who's leaving! All the black people!"

The audience at the ceremony reacted angrily to the remark, with many approaching the podium or walking out and calls being made on social media for her to step down.

Ms Gordeuk has since apologised for the remark and said she was upset when people began leaving the ceremony early.

She told MyFoxAtlanta: "I deeply apologise for my actions made in the emotional state of trying to let this last student finish his speech."

She told KABC-TV: "It was not a statement of racism. It was just my frustration.

"I'm sorry it happened. So sorry, but God has forgiven me and we'll just go on from there."

The George Department of Education has not commented on the video footage.
