School scraps music lessons based on Michael Jackson's hits after parent complaints

Music lessons based on Michael Jackson’s pop hits have been scrapped after parents at a London school complained.

Bosses at Weston Park Primary in Hornsey, north London, blamed an admin error for educating pupils on the alleged paedophile's hits and influence on music.

The Sun reports that the school admitted classes on the Thriller singer were held last year but then axed after the release of HBO documentary Leaving Neverland in January.

The film accuses Jackson of being a serial child sex abuser.

A school gaffe saw Year 6 pupils in this year's curriculum told they would be studying Jacko's music in classes again this term.

Parents were left outraged when their kids came home to tell them about the music lessons.

One mum said 10-year-old girl was "very uncomfortable" learning about the King of Pop.

The mum, who asked not to be named, told the Ham & High: "Given the current climate I do not believe this is in any way an appropriate subject matter for a young child.

"My daughter is 10 years old, and is sadly acutely aware of the current controversy surrounding Jackson and the allegations he would have faced. She feels very uncomfortable, and is worried. I am in turn furious.”

Bosses at the school reassured parents this week the Jacko classes had been cancelled over worries that the pop superstar was a child molester.

Headteacher Katie Coombes said the lesson plan was “published in error” and had not been updated from last year, when the Michael Jackson classes were held.

She said: "The school never had any intention of teaching this to our pupils this year.

"There was an administrative error and our curriculum document was not updated.

"Including Michael Jackson on the curriculum would absolutely not fit with the school's values."

Jackson, who died 10 years ago aged 50 from a drug overdose, was plagued by paedophile allegations dating back decades.

In 1993 Jordan Chandler, 13, claimed he was molested by the Black or White performer. The allegations were dropped after a $23million payoff.

In 2004 Gavin Arvizo, 13, also accused Jackson of sex abuse – but he was acquitted in a 2005 trial.

And in 2009 Jackson was accused of masturbating on the phone by Brit youngster Terry George when he was just 13 in 1979.

There were three further allegations in later years from Michael Jacobshagen, Wade Robson and James Safechuck - who appeared in the Leaving Neverland documentary.
