Schoolboy, 8, shot dead at farm named
Police have released the identity of an eight year old boy shot dead at a farm. Jay Cartmell sustained fatal injuries to his head and face on sprawling land near the A66, north of Warcop, Cumbria.
It was around 2.50pm on Saturday when emergency responders were called to the rural property. Officers secured a firearm found at the scene, while the child, from Frizington, Cumbria, was airlifted to hospital. He died later that evening from his injuries.
A man in his 60s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault. He was taken to police custody and later held on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter. The individual has since been released on bail as the police continue their meticulous probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Cumbria Police are appealing to the public for witnesses to come forward. A force spokesperson said: "As officers continue with their inquiries into this incident, they are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or the moments leading up to it to come forward.
