Schoolboy dies and driver fighting for life after Audi crashes into trees

A 16-year-old boy has died and an 18-year-old man is fighting for his life after a horror crash. The incident, which has also left another teenager seriously injured in hospital, happened in Preston in Lancashire on Tuesday, September 10.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Chain Caul Way, between Leeward Road and Nile Close, at around 10.55pm. Lancashire Police said officers attended and found an Audi A3 Sport, which had been travelling towards Lea, had left the carriageway and crashed into some trees.

The 16-year-old boy, who was travelling as a rear seat passenger, was taken to hospital, where he died today, September 11. The driver of the Audi, an 18-year-old man, suffered serious injuries in the crash, and remains in a critical condition in hospital, police said.

A 17-year-old boy, a front seat passenger, also suffered serious injuries and is in a stable condition in hospital. A Lancashire Police spokesman said: "A young life has been lost, and at what must be an incredibly distressing time for them, our thoughts go out to the family and loved ones of the teenager who sadly died.

"We’re continuing to investigate the collision, and our thoughts also remain with the injured people and their loved ones. We wanted to bring you this update today, but are also continuing to ask for any witnesses, or people with dashcam footage of the Chain Caul Way area to please get in contact."
