Schoolboy taken to hospital after being hit by bus in Chryston
A 12-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after being hit by a bus on his way to school in North Lanarkshire.
The youngster, who is understood to be an S1 pupil at Chryston High School, was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children for treatment following the incident before 9am this morning.
Enquiries are ongoing and he is reported to be "doing well".
The incident comes just a day after parents again protested at North Lanarkshire Council’s headquarters about the removal of free school transport for thousands of pupils.
They have called on the local authority to revisit the risk assessment process for safe walking routes that was undertaken, and highlighted increased traffic around schools.
A North Lanarkshire Council spokesperson said: "An incident occurred outside Chryston High School this morning, before the start of the school day, where a public service bus was in a collision with a pupil.
"Emergency services were quickly on the scene and attended to the pupil, who was later taken to hospital. The pupil is reported to be doing well.
"The pupil had been travelling on the bus which hit him: this incident highlights the importance of using pedestrian crossings, which we constantly remind pupils to do."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.45am on Thursday,12 September, 2024, we received a report of a crash involving a bus and a 12-year-old child pedestrian on Linsdaybeg Road, Chryston.
“The child was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children for treatment.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
