Schoolgirl, 12, airlifted to hospital and fighting for life after being knocked down on Scots road

A schoolgirl was airlifted to hospital and is fighting for her life after being knocked down in Ayrshire.

Emergency services scrambled to Ardrossan Road in Seamill after she was struck by a blue Nissan Note at around 3.50pm on Monday.

An air ambulance was called in and the 12-year-old was flown to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow for treatment. Medics describe her condition as critical.

The female driver of the Nissan car was uninjured. Police quickly cordoned off the scene and cops are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Chris Hoggans said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and I am appealing to anyone who was in the area, who may have witnessed the incident to contact us.

“If anyone has dash cam equipment, please check the footage as it could hold images which could assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 2330 of Monday, June 3.
