All schools in Edinburgh and the Lothians to close due to Storm Éowyn red warning
Edinburgh Council has confirmed all schools will close on Friday due to Storm Éowyn.
The local authority issued an update shortly after 2pm on Thursday, January 23, confirming all schools and nurseries will not open due to a red weather warning in place for gale force winds.
An update on the council's website reads: "All Council schools and early years settings will be closed on Friday 24 January. Schools will communicate directly with parents."

Schools in East Lothian, West Lothian and Midlothian will also remain closed having made separate announcements earlier on Thursday. Storm Éowyn is set to bring strong gusts of wind from 10am-5pm.
An amber warning will remain in place after 5pm with a danger to life alert also issued by the Met Office advising the public to exercise extreme caution if leaving their homes.

It comes after ScotRail cancelled all services across its network on Friday, including trains to and from Edinburgh.
Taking to X to confirm the withdrawl of services ScotRail said: "With the safety of customers and staff of paramount importance, we will not be safe to operate passenger services due to the forecast weather conditions across Scotland during #StormÉowyn.
"All ScotRail services are suspended on Friday, 24 January. We strongly advise you not to travel, as there will be no train services, and no alternative transport will be available."
