Scientists discover new glowing 'mystery mollusk' species off California coast

California researchers at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) have discovered a new deep-sea creature within the ocean's midnight zone between 3,300ft and 13,000ft. The glowing 'mystery mollusk' was first spotted during a deep-sea dive in February 2000, and after more than 150 sightings, scientists finally published their findings on Tuesday, describing the new species.
