A fresh pair of yellow weather alerts have been issued by the Met Office as Scotland has been told to expect some stormy conditions this week.

The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning for eastern parts of Scotland, with a yellow weather warning for heavy rain covering more central areas and western parts of the country. The heavy rain weather warning will begin from 1pm today (May 26) and will conclude by 11:59pm this evening.

The yellow weather alert for thunderstorms comes into affect from 11am on Monday, May 27 and will end at 10pm on the same day.

Forecasters have said that heavy showers and potential thundery weather is to be expected this afternoon and could lead to "some flooding and transport disruption".

The weather alert reads: "Slow-moving showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop during Sunday afternoon and evening. Rainfall accumulations will vary significantly across the warning area but where showers become organised, there is the possibility of 20 mm of rain falling in an hour. Following on from recent wet weather this will bring a risk of some flooding."

As with the thunderstorm alert for Monday, the forecasters said: "Slow-moving showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop during Monday. Rainfall accumulations will vary significantly across the warning area but 10-20 mm in an hour is likely in places with a chance of up to 30-40 mm in a few hours. Lightning may also cause impacts."

People are being told to be wary of potential flooding near to their homes and prepare an emergency kit if their location is susceptible to being affected by adverse weather. The forecasters said: "Prepare to protect your property and people from injury. Before gusty winds arrive, check to ensure moveable objects or temporary structures are well secured. Items include; bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, gazebos, sheds, and fences."
