Scotland's seven best fish and chip shops for 2025 crowned at prestigious awards

Scotland's top fish and chip shops for 2025 have been revealed All across the country, there are countless restaurants serving up every kind of cuisine you could possibly imagine. However, sometimes nothing beats a good old-fashioned fish supper.

FRY Magazine has unveiled the 2025 winners of its annual Fry Awards. The prestigious awards, which "celebrate the incredible achievements of fish and chip shops nationwide", honour the 50 best fish and chip takeaways and 10 best restaurants across the UK.

A total of seven Scottish chippies have been recognised at this year's Fry Awards across the two categories. The Garioch Fish Bar, Moore’s Fish & Chips, Quintiliani’s Fast Food, Redcloak Fish Bar, Sea Salt + Sole, and The Cafe Royal all appear in the top 50 takeaways, while Catch in Giffnock earned a spot on the coveted top 10 restaurants list.

The Garioch Fish Bar is situated in Inverurie in Aberdeenshire. Describing itself as Inverurie's "finest fish and chip shop", it sources its produce locally and all of its food is prepared fresh to order.

Moore’s Fish & Chips, located in Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway, is a family-run business that dates back to 1977. Although specialising in fish and chips, the takeaway offers "an extensive menu of traditional classics" such as sausage and haggis dishes.

Elsewhere, Quintiliani’s Fast Food can be found in the South Lanarkshire town of Larkhall. Another historic family-run chippy, it serves up fish suppers, pizzas, kebabs, pakoras, and more.

Nestled by the sea in the Aberdeenshire town of Stonehaven, Redcloak Fish Bar is an award-winning takeaway that makes use of local and high-quality ingredients from sustainable sources. Its fish is delivered daily from the nearby port of Peterhead.

Sea Salt + Sole can be found in Aberdeen itself. Its haddock is sourced daily from sustainable suppliers, while other specialties such as langoustines, scampi, and rock turbot are "landed from reputable local fishermen".

Finally, The Cafe Royal is located in the town and former royal burgh of Annan in Dumfries and Galloway. Taking to Facebook to celebrate the recognition, the takeaway wrote: "Thanks to all our customers and a special thanks to our team."

Meanwhile, Catch in Giffnock is the only Scottish eatery to be featured among FRY Magazine's top 10 fish and chip restaurants. Describing itself as a "posh modern day neighbourhood fish and chip shop and restaurant", it serves up dishes such as haddock and chips, lobster, halibut, langoustine tails, beef burgers, and fish finger butties.
