A top dentist at a highly-rated private Scottish dental practice has been spared jail over domestic abuse after being convicted of terrorising his wife. Dr Conor O’Malley is Director of L&H Dental Care in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, and his profile on the website paints him as a family man, boasting of his marriage to wife Steph and the children they have together.

But he has now been banned from approaching or contacting her in any way for the next three years over an abusive course of conduct towards her.

But Dr O'Malley, 51, can now be unmasked as a domestic abuser who will spend the next four months adhering to a home curfew, as punishment for his crimes. After being convicted of engaging in a course of behaviour which was abusive of his wife, Steph, he returned to the dock at Glasgow Sheriff Court last week to be sentenced.

He was placed on a Community Payback Order which will see him supervised by social workers for the next 18 months, and carrying out 150 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months. He was also made the subject of a Restriction of Liberty Order, which sees him fitted with an electronic tag and having to remain within his home between 7pm and 7am for the next four months.

He was made the subject of a three-year Non-Harassment Order, which means he is unable to approach or contact his wife for that period of time. Dr O'Malley joined L&H Dental in 1996 and and completed his Master of Science degree in Primary Dental Care at the University of Glasgow in 2000.

He gained a qualification from the Membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners in 2002 and completed his Membership in Advanced General Dental Surgery at Glasgow's Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2004. In 2006, he gained the highest accolade given to general dentists - a Fellowship with the Faculty of General Dental Practice.

As well as being a Vocational Trainer and the Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties tutor for the Faculty of General Dental Practice Diploma, he has also served as the Director of the Faculty of General Dental Practice, which is now known as The College of General Dentistry Scotland (CGDent).

It is a professional body representing all grass roots dentists and members of the dental team and states it is "committed to raising standards and working together to improve the profession". L&H Dental, which has a Google review rating of 4.9 out of 5, claims it "strives to provide the highest quality of care" to patients.

It also states it is "a modern dental practice which always puts the needs of our patients first" and boasts about the "comfort and convenience, caring and professional environment" provided to clients, stating that staff "promise to be courteous and helpful to you at all times".

A source said: "It's not a good look to have a convicted domestic abuser's face slapped all over your website, alongside boasts about how well you treat people when that very person terrorised someone he supposedly loved - the mother of his children. To say it's poor taste would be an understatement." L&H Dental Care did not respond to requests for comment.
