Scots domestic abuser who bagged top job in US prison sacked after being exposed
A convicted domestic abuser who blagged a job as a jailer in an American prison has been sacked after being exposed for lying about his convictions.
The Daily Record revealed this month that Andrew Parr, also known as Drew Gillespie, managed to secure the deputy sheriff job after meeting an American woman online and convincing her to marry him within three months.
But Parr, 36, has been fired by Bremer County Sheriff’s Department, Iowa. Parr failed to disclose two convictions to the authorities including one for domestic abuse.

Parr, of Hawick, who also claims to have been a member of the Royal Artillery regiment, serving in Iraq, abandoned his Scots partner in July last year telling her he was working in Amsterdam. He moved to the US and wed a woman there before landing the jail job.
Last night his US former wife said she wants to see him in prison for fraud and then shipped back to Scotland.
The 45-year-old said she met Parr on TikTok in December 2021 and struck up a friendship. She said: “He told me all sorts of stories about his life. How he was in the military and that he was an ambulance driver, but he really wanted to work for the NHS.
“He told me he loved me and was wanting to find a home for us there. This was in March of 2022. He said he worked for the NHS and on his first day on the job said he got stabbed by a drug addict.
“Not long after he blocked me. I was heartbroken. We ended up not speaking again until October of 2022. And then we made a plan to be together. In April of 2023 we met in Boston.
“All of the time he told me about war stories, how there was a battle and he was in it and it was on YouTube."
Parr even told her he didn’t have kids, despite having five in Scotland.
She said Parr became abusive after they wed and constantly accused her of cheating.
But his lies unravelled. She said: “He always told me you couldn’t look up re-cords in Scotland. The beginning of June he went to jail school. And that’s when I was able to really dig. I found the birth records, his marriage record and divorce. I found his mom and dad too.
“One lie that was huge and was the reason he got back in touch was that his mom died in July. He said that changed his world and he knew he wanted to be with me. I tried to look up her death records and there was nothing at all. His mom was alive and well.
“Our divorce was final on July 30 this year and he married another woman two weeks later.”
Bremer County Sheriff’s office has been contacted for comment.
