Scots to line streets for Paddy McGuinness' Children in Need cycle challenge

Lanarkshire locals are being urged to line the streets cheer on Paddy McGuinness as he cycles through Strathaven on the final leg of his gruelling Children in Need challenge.

The BBC Radio 2 presenter is pedalling 300 miles over five days on a customised Raleigh Chopper from Wrexham to Glasgow for the BBC charity and will be passing through the market town of Strathaven this Thursday evening.

Locals are advised to keep an eye on the 'Paddy Tracker' for an estimated time but it is expected to be around 7pm.

Paddy McGuinness's Ultra Endurance Cycle Challenge is raising vital funds for Children in Need which you can watch live on BBC One and iPlayer at 7pm on Friday.

The 51-year-old Top Gear presenter will be traversing three nations on his cycle challenge heading from Wales into England and then ending up in Scotland.

He hopes to cross the finish line in Glasgow on Friday morning, riding the adapted children’s bike which has only three gears.

A BBC spokesperson said: "As this is a challenge, Paddy will need to keep moving on his bike to make sure he finishes the route on time.

"It would be brilliant if the local community came out to support Paddy by lining the streets to cheer and wave as he passes by to give him a big boost.

"You'll be able to track Paddy's progress on the day to see exactly when he'll be near your location. We'll also be collecting donations for Children in Need as we pass through.

"So, if your business is planning a fundraiser, you can contribute directly to Paddy's bucket. We'd love to see your business out there supporting Paddy on the final stretch of his incredible challenge."

Today is his longest day in the saddle, with him having to ride an epic 68 miles.

On the Radio 2 Breakfast Show this morning Zoe Ball told Paddy the total amount raised so far is £205,073.
