Scotswood Road closed for several hours as armed officers respond to 'report of concern' in Newcastle city centre
A city centre road was closed for several hours today as armed officers responded to an incident in the area.
Shortly after 9am on Thursday, Northumbria Police say it was called to a report of a concern for the welfare of a man on Scotswood Road. A cordon was in place for around four hours while the situation was ongoing.
The road has since reopened following the recovery of a vehicle which had several smashed windows. One man has been taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI).
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At around 9.10am today (Thursday), we responded to a report of a concern for the welfare of a man on Scotswood Road in the Newcastle area.
"The situation is no longer ongoing, and the man is now receiving the appropriate care."
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident on Scotswood Road in Newcastle this morning (21 November) at 9:08am. We dispatched one ambulance crew and one HART crew (Hazardous Area Response Team). One patient was taken to RVI hospital."
