Scott Mills has explained why he "couldn’t stop being sick" while filming Celebrity Race Across the World.

The second season of the hit BBC travel competition show kicked off this week, as Scott and his husband Sam Vaughan took on three other couples in a race through South America.

Mills opened up to Metro about some of the low moments filming the show, including times when he questioned why he signed up at all.

"It was a heatwave and we were on a bus and the air con didn’t stretch as far as the toilet, so as soon as you went into it it was 50C," he recalled.

"Someone had just had a poo in there and I was just spewing, spewing, spewing, spewing. And I actually thought to myself, 'This could be the end.'

"I couldn’t stop being sick. All I could smell was hot poo. I was like this is the grimmest thing I’ve ever done."

The Radio 2 DJ admitted there were times he "absolutely hated" filming Celebrity Race Across the World, as a lack of caffeine was giving him recurring headaches.

"I started getting these mad headaches – I don’t get headaches – but I was getting really awful ones to the point where one day I said, 'I can’t film today, I’m really sorry," he recalled.

"Obviously, there was a medic there and he made sure I ate and that I had some tablets to try and get rid of it but it wouldn’t go for three days."

This week's premiere episode saw some viewers question the strategy of Kelly Brook and her husband Jeremy Parisi, when they opted not to stress about reaching their first check-point with the fastest time.

Elsewhere, Jeff Brazier teamed up with his son Freddy for the reality show and expressed hope the experience would motivate his son for the future.

Celebrity Race Across the World season 2 is currently airing Wednesday nights at 9pm on BBC One.
