Scott Wright reveals real reason he left Rangers for Birmingham City
Scott Wright says leaving Rangers for Birmingham City was a ‘no brainer’ because he believes in the project Knighthead have set out in the second city.
Scottish winger Wright was among the flurry of late signings Blues made on deadline day with Japanese midfielder Tomoki Iwata and forward Jay Stansfield also arriving. Wright enjoyed the dream debut by scoring a 91st minute winner against Wigan Athletic to extend Blues’ League One winning streak to three matches.
Some might ask why a player who started a Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv in early August wanted to join a League One club by the end of the month. But Blues’ ambition to reach the Premier League under American owners Knighthead sold the move to Wright.

Wright said: “I was getting game time at Rangers but I just felt like it was time for a new challenge for me. Once I had spoken to them it was a no brainer. Coming and being part of this project and this journey was something that really interested me.
“I signed on the Friday and it came up on Tuesday or Wednesday, so it really moved at a fast rate, but after having conversations with my family and my wife we thought it was going to be the right step for me.”
Wright could make his first Blues start in Tuesday’s Bristol Street Motors Trophy opener against League Two side Walsall. Blues are expected to fight on all fronts this season and won the competition the last time they were involved in it in the 1994/95 season.
