Prepare your Ghostface masks, everyone: Scream has been given the go-ahead for a seventh outing.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) will helm the film, taking over from previous directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett had been in charge of rebooting the franchise with 2022's Scream, followed by Scream VI, which was released in March.

For Scream 7, the duo will instead act as executive producers alongside Chad Villella.

Scream VI enjoyed record openings, pulling in $169 million worldwide. The film starred Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown, returning Sam, Tara, Chad and Mindy, respectively. Since they all made it out alive, there's a good chance they might return for the seventh movie.

Legacy characters Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) could also make a comeback, while Roger L Jackson would likely be back as the voice of Ghostface.

Barrera recently spoke to Digital Spy about the prospect of returning for Scream 7, revealing that there's "so much potential" for her character Sam.

"There are so many places that [Sam] could go. That's one of the reasons that, when I read the script for Scream 5, I was so interested in the character," she said.

"There's so much potential here of where she could go with her mental health — she's just unpredictable. I find that that darkness in her makes her that much more interesting to play and to watch," Barrera continued.

"She's the hero, but she's also kind of the villain. It's this contradiction in her that I find fascinating and, if we get to do another one, I would love to see."

Scream VI is currently streaming on Paramount+.
