White, drab and dull - bathrooms can easily be forgotten about and, as a result, be left characterless and plain.

We think your bathroom should be treated like any other room in the home, and given the love and attention it deserves.

Small updates can transform a bathroom - here are our top tips to help give yours a new lease of life.

Mood lighting

Enhance your bath time by adding scented candles for a soft warm glow, it’ll set the perfect mood for a pampering session. As light decreases we begin to relax. Certain scents can promote calm and help you de-stress after a long day.

Update the walls

While artwork and family photos have long graced living rooms rooms and hallways, why not add your favourite prints to your bathroom? Try botanical images, illustrations, family photos or vintage postcards. Keep your pictures sealed within a glass frame and you shouldn’t have to worry about humidity damage.

Plant life

If you secretly fantasise about running off to a tropical island, bringing plants into your bathroom is the perfect place to grow your mini ecosystem. Finding the right plants to thrive in these conditions is easy – opt for plants such as aloe vera and bamboo as they require little light to grow, while Begonia enjoys fluorescent lighting. For smaller bathrooms try hanging ivy - it’s air purifying, making it ideal for removing odours and mould. If you're looking for a fuss-free fast growing plant, the spider plant thrives in a humid steamy environment. Check out the Joy of Plants for some great tips.

New towels

New thick super-soft towels create the perfect illusion of a new bathroom. There is no greater feeling than wrapping up in a fresh fluffy towel. Choose a high-quality yarn like Egyptian cotton for maximum absorption and longevity. Hang on a wall or hook, or drape over a radiator to add some welcoming texture to the space.

Brass taps

For a luxe/sleek finish to your bathroom, gold and brass faucets will add that finishing touch. You’ll be surprised at the difference it makes, and the modern vibe it generates. Brass works wonderfully against white tiles - or a wooden vanity unit - and can liven up any paint colour you’re using on your walls.

Pretty products

Showing off some of your favourite products in elegant bottles and containers will make your morning and evening routine a pleasure. The simple addition of new products will instantly give your bathroom a little refresh. We are currently lusting over Tom Dixon's latest bathroom range which smells divine.
