Sea Lions Use Elephant Seal as Mattress on Farallon Islands

Innovative sea lions used a large elephant seal as a mattress, lying on its back as they relaxed at the Farallon Islands, located off the coast of San Francisco.

Footage filmed by marine life enthusiast Natalia Cara de Medeiros shows the cheeky sea lions resting on top of the northern elephant seal, who appears unfazed by the situation.

In the YouTube video caption, de Medeiros notes that the Farallon Islands are closed to the public, and are a national wildlife refuge, with research and conservation the focus in the area.

“That means that animals are free to be wild and not worry about humans,” she added. Credit: Naty’s Adventures via Storyful
