Aberdeen Student Show has announced its latest charity production will be a Granite City parody of the award-winning film and musical, Legally Blonde.

‘Seagully Blonde’ takes to the stage of Aberdeen’s His Majesty’s Theatre in April next year, marking the 104th year of the Aberdonian tradition.

The show title was teased online over the weekend and was announced by student administrators on Original 106FM on Monday morning (September 23).

This year's Administrator, 4th year English and Film student at the University of Aberdeen, Sam Allan, could not be more excited for the year ahead.

He said: "In April, students from across the city will come together to try and raise as much money as possible for local charities and provide a solid evening of entertainment that rivals even the most professional shows.

"I’m incredibly proud of all that our team have achieved so far; they have already completed a power of work to shape next year's Student Show.

"We cannot wait to share this legally Doric production with Aberdeen audiences, and create a student experience like no other for those that join in on the fun on stage!

"Student Show has become a staple of Aberdeen's cultural calendar and we are so lucky to have the folk of Aberdeen on our side, over the last few years the city has come out in their masses to support the Student Show and we’re so lucky to have their incredible support year in, year out.

"Aberdeen is always firmly at the heart of Student Show and we aim to send everyone home a proud Aberdonian, even if the council normally end up as the butt of the joke."

Director for the 2025 Production, Gavin Mckay, added: "We knew we wanted a show with a strong female lead and female supporting characters. We also wanted to go in a different direction from last year to give the audience some variety.

"So we’ve moved from the cheeky Mounthoolin Rouge to the bright and perky Aberdeen University. We wanted a story about friendship, platonic love and some pink sparkle.

"This title has been spoken about for years and I think it’s a movie/musical that lots of people know and love. I think folk love seeing these popular stories brought to life again through Doric and all things Aberdonian - it’s what makes it special."

When asked what he could reveal about the show next year, he responded saying that this show is going to be "sassy, silly and sparkly."

Fresh from the record breaking ‘Mounthoolin’ Rouge’, Aberdeen Student Show are tickled pink to be returning for their next production, ‘Seagully Blonde’!

The doric parody will follow the story of Kinkell Woods (but ye can ca her Elle, abdy does) is makkin’ her wye from oot in the sticks to the Granite City to start a law degree (Fit, like it’s hard?!).

She’s nae followin’ her ex there, honest. But if he happens tae be there too, she micht be able tae win him back. Or micht she realise there’s mair tae life, and mair tae her, than haein’ a mannie by her side?

Gavin added: "The Student Society are delighted to have teamed up with an array of local businesses once again, including Apache North Sea, CALA Homes and many more to attempt to cover their production costs.

"The society are well on their way of covering all their production costs through local sponsorship, meaning 100% of ticket sales can go directly to deserving charities working in and around the North East of Scotland.

"Student Show gives so much to the local community. It helps small charities with wee grants all the way up to the Gold charities with whatever they require. Not only that, they help out at events or offer support throughout the year - taking part in Parades or charity events.

"On a personal note, Student Show is special to me as it is the reason I stayed in Aberdeen after university. I met a wonderful group of lifelong friends who changed my life and I’ll be forever thankful to Student Show for that."

Tickets for Seagully Blone, which will run at His Majesty’s Theatre from April 23-26, 2025, will go on sale at Aberdeen Box Office this Friday, September 27, so make sure to get you tickets while you can.
