Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer and his lime green top made a huge splash during the season premiere of Dancing With the Stars.

As he and his dancing partner Lindsay Arnold salsa danced to ‘Spice Up Your Life’ by The Spice Girls, Spicer seemed delighted by his performance as he laughed and punched the air afterwards.

The DWTS judges didn’t seem to agree and Spicer has since clapped back at them in a now deleted tweet, implying that "Hollywood" people did not have spirituality.

The sight of Spicer banging on bongo drums and twirling Arnold around wasn’t enough to impress the judges, who gave him a low score of 12/30. Judge Bruno Tonioli called it “strangely entertaining”, but also told Spicer, “It’s like you were being attacked by a swarm of wasps.”

After former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee threw his support behind Spicer on Twitter (accompanied by a Napoleon Dynamite GIF), Spicer retweeted and wrote, “Thank you @GovMikeHuckabee. Clearly the judges aren’t going to be with me.”

He continued, “Let's send a message to #Hollywood that those of us who stand for #Christ won’t be discounted. May God bless you.”

The tweet was later deleted and replaced with another one, which now reads, “Really appreciate your support and prayers.”

It was however screengrabbed by a number of Twitter users prior to its deletion.

Despite Spicer failing to impress the judges, his appearance on Dancing With the Stars did give the reality show a viewings rating boost of 4 percent - netting 8 million viewers for the ABC show.

While typically politicians endorse one another in a political context, a few have instead endorsed Spicer on the dancing show, including President Donald Trump.

Trump tweeted in August, “Just heard that Sean Spicer will be on ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ He will do great. A terrific person who loves our Country dearly!”

Spicer said to the New Yorker of his DWTS participation that he was “just making money, trying to enjoy life”.

He also added to The Hollywood Reporter that he hoped the show would be a “politics-free zone” and said, “My hope is that at the end of the season, [DWTS host Tom Bergeron] looks back on this and realises what a great example it was of being able to bring people of really diverse backgrounds together to have fun with each other, engage in a real civil and respectful way and maybe show millions of Americans how we can get back to that kind of interaction.”

Other notable stars on this season of Dancing With the Stars include Queer Eye’s Karamo Brown. Brown previously tweeted that he was “excited to sit down with” Spicer and said to Access Hollywood, "I'm a big believer that if you can talk to someone and meet in the middle, you can learn about each other and help each other both grow."
