Preparations to celebrate Rutherglen’s 900th anniversary as a Royal Burgh are in full swing as the committee searches for a part-time Project Lead.

The historic anniversary, marking 900 years since Rutherglen was declared a Royal Burgh, promises to be a vibrant celebration of the town's heritage, with plans already in place for festivals, cultural events, and community engagement initiatives. The Project Lead will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of these festivities.

The successful candidate will be employed on a temporary contract until March 2027, working 17.5 hours per week, with a pro-rata salary ranging from £32,480 to £33,746, plus a bonus upon completion of the project.

Working in collaboration with the Rutherglen 900 Steering Group and Healthy n Happy Community Development Trust, they will lead the creation of a diverse programme of events designed to reflect Rutherglen's rich history and engage the local community.

Councillor Robert Brown, Chair of the Rutherglen 900 Committee, previously spoke about the mission of the organisers. He said: “We want to celebrate the rich history of Rutherglen and make sure that we restore and enhance the identity of Rutherglen for future generations and make them feel proud of the area and its heritage.”

The Project Lead will be tasked with organising a range of cultural and arts-based activities, from an enhanced Landemer Festival to potential heritage tours and musical performances at Overtoun Park.

They will work closely with local partners, stakeholders, and volunteers to ensure the celebration represents Rutherglen’s community spirit.

Applications are now open for this unique opportunity to be part of Rutherglen’s history in the making.
