Missing Woman: Body Found In River

Police searching for a missing woman have found a body in a river.

A major search and rescue operation was launched after a 51-year-old woman went missing in the River Usk.

Witnesses reported seeing her in the river near the Usk Bridge at around 6.30pm Monday in Brecon, Powys.

After a major search involving police, mountain rescue and the Coastguard helicopter was resumed on Tuesday, police said a body had been found and next of kin informed.

Initial searches had to be stood down on Monday night after river levels became dangerously high.

Flood warnings and alerts were in place across Wales at the time due to heavy rain, with dozens of roads closed.
