Sears Gets Saucy with Topless Kardashian Ad

Half art, half soft porn, Sears' newest ad for the Kardashian Kollection is guaranteed to garner a whole lot of publicity.

A photograph of Kourtney, Khloe and Kim Kardashian posing suggestively and wearing nothing but their Kardashian branded jeans is sure to get tongues wagging about the sisters' fashion line sold exclusively by the typically stodgy department store chain.

"Kourt, Khloe and I decided to go natural for our Kardashian Kollection denim shoot with Nick Saglimbeni and pose in only our favorite jeans!" Kim blabbed to fans on her blog yesterday. "What do you think of the pic?"

Though most comments on Kim's blog were bursting with bubbly exclamation points ("Omg this pic is sooo hot! I love it! . . . Absolutely stunning shot!!!!!i want those jeans!!!!!!), a moral minority wondered what Kim's father would say if he saw the ad. Shelley from Arizona wrote, "You are already sexy enough with all your clothes on from your neck to your toes, you don't need to show them anything to sell your merchandise. #BIBLE"

Commenters on some other websites were also critical, suggesting the ad could bite Sears on the behind. "Personally speaking, I find the ads disgusting. Sears has always "supposedly" been a family store, but with an ad like this, they can now be likened to a soft porn store. I sure won't be taking my grandchild near a store that uses an ad like this to promote sales," wrote DannySue on the Huffington Post website.

Though a departure for Sears, the controversial Kardashian sisters' ad could be considered tame compared to other retail campaigns that use sex to sell their products.

As far back as the 1980's, a then 15-year-old Brooke Shields asked TV viewers, "You want to know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing." Despite some negative buzz, the designer jeans jumped off store shelves.

Calvin Klein has always pushed the envelope in his jeans ads. This year's campaign for his spring collection shows topless supermodel Lara Stone in suggestive poses. The iconic fashion and marketing genius has been quoted as saying, "Jeans are about sex."

Given that the Kardashians are also about sex (Kim Kardashian soared to fame after a sex tape was leaked of her and Ray J) it is not surprising a copycat strategy would be used to sell the sisters' line of snug fitting jeans. What is more questionable is whether the marriage between this odd couple -- family-friendly Sears and the seductive Kardashians -- can last longer than curvy Kim's 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries.
