For the first time ever, Secret Cinema has tackled the small screen.

At a time when our favourite fictional worlds are available at our fingertips 24/7, the possibilities for immersive events now seem endless.

So where has Secret Cinema decided to visit this time around? In case you haven't heard, it's Hawkins. That's right, not only are you hopping in your time machine for some '80s nostalgia, but you also have the opportunity to adventure alongside some of your favourite Stranger Things characters.

You know the drill; hosted in a secret London location, the Netflix hit has been meticulously recreated to offer the most authentic of interactive experiences.

Digital Spy had the opportunity to test out Secret Cinema Presents Stranger Things, and as such we had a presumably tailored press experience that cast us as '70s wannabe reporters (oh hey, Nancy Wheeler!).

Ticket holders will be able to choose from a selection of era-appropriate pop culture movements – think new romantics, hip hop and punk. This will help form the basis of your character and, of course, that all-important costume.

Once you reach the secret location, you won't be able to miss the Starcourt Mall (compete with neon sign). This is the only photo-op before you enter, so if you're doing it for the 'gram make sure you don't miss the chance.

It's 4th July and you're heading for your High School reunion but – as ever – there's something odd going on in the town of Hawkins. The setting is very season three, complete with Scoops Ahoy (serving real ice cream) and retro arcade.

We don't want to give away much more, because half of the fun is the element of surprise. What we will tell you is that there's plenty to explore, and you're bound to bump into a familiar face or two (and in some cases the resemblance is so uncanny, you'll do a double-take).

As with any Secret Cinema before it, you can tailor your own Stranger Things experience.

You are really in charge of your journey – to get the most from it, be sure to speak to as many people as you can and follow the different leads. But if you'd rather just take a back seat and take in all the nods to the beloved TV show, you can do that too – trust us, there are plenty.

However you choose to enjoy it, make sure you stick around to the end, because the final act is one not to be missed.

Secret Cinema Presents Stranger Things runs until February 2020, with tickets available from the official website.
