Grab some food, curl up on the sofa and get ready to say “aww”” as The Secret Life of the Zoo returns to screens again.

Now in its fifth series, the Channel 4 cameras are back to explore the goings on in the enclosures of one of the most popular zoos in the United Kingdom.

For six weeks, the nation can once again fall in love with the adorable inmates and follow their every move for one hour a week.

Here’s everything you need to know about The Secret Life of the Zoo…

Where is the zoo?

The series is filmed in Chester Zoo in Cheshire, one of the country’s most popular attractions.

What happens in episode 1?

The first episode of series five features several different types of animals from orang-utans to meerkats to aardvarks.

The most extraordinary story is the orangutan enclosure, where sisters Emma and Subis are both pregnant by the same male.

When the workers turn up one morning, Emma has a baby boy in her arms but things aren’t going so smoothly for Subis, who ends up rushed to the vet after being in labour for 24 hours without progress.

Elsewhere, meerkats Beagle and Huskie are in a new space as a breeding couple but the presence of aardvarks is making them anxious leading to a whole redesign.

And finally, there are some majestic looking Cameroon Mountain One-Horned Chameleon on show.

When is it on?

The Secret Life of the Zoo airs weekly on Channel 4 at 8pm from Wednesday 18 April.
