Warning: This post contains spoilers for Hulu's The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
Fans can’t get enough of #MomTok and the drama from Hulu’s The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
The new reality series — which premiered Sept. 5 — follows the lives of the Mormon moms that make up the viral TikTok #MomTok group as they deal with the aftermath of the “soft swinging" sex scandal that made headlines worldwide back in 2022.
TikTok star and #MomTok founder Taylor Frankie Paul sent shockwaves through the community back in June 2022 when she announced her divorce from her ex-husband Tate Paul. Taylor made the announcement in a TikTok Live and revealed the “soft swinging” she and her friends — including some from within the #MomTok group — participated in that led to the end of her first marriage.
The series also follows the lives of #MomTok members Demi Engemann, Jennifer Affleck, Jessi Ngatikaura, Layla Wessel and Mayci Neeley as they navigate the scandal that shook up their lives and the sisterhood.
While Hulu has not confirmed whether or not a second season will be on the way, here is everything we know so far.
Warning: spoilers ahead for The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives
What happened at the end of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives?
By the end of season 1, the future of #MomTok seems in limbo as Whitney is officially ousted from the group and Jennifer officially moves to New York with her husband Zac following their own disagreements about the group.
In the last episode, “The Book of Rumors,” Whitney grapples with whether or not she will attend Mayci’s influencer event. When Whitney does not turn up, the rest of the group decides to officially unfollow her on social media and criticizes her for not supporting Mayci during her launch.
Meanwhile, Jennifer tries to discuss her concerns about losing out on “business opportunities with #MomTok” with Zac, after he reveals he was accepted into medical school in New York. After she voices her concerns, Zac pushes back and says, “I really don’t care.”
“I think the reason why I have a really hard time communicating my feelings toward Zac is because I feel like his first reaction is to fight or share his opinions instead of supporting or validating me,” Jennifer says during one of the confessionals. “Most important to me in this life is my relationship with God and my family, but obviously if things won’t get better, he knows that I won’t stay with him if I keep being treated this way.”
At the end, it’s revealed that Jennifer and Zac have moved to New York together.
In the midst of all this unfolding, Taylor and her boyfriend Dakota Mortensen seemingly reconcile after their spat over the phone during the girls’ trip to Las Vegas for Layla’s birthday. After Taylor gives birth to their son, she expresses how “supportive” Dakota has been “in the process,” despite their disagreements throughout the season.
“These are like the best days of your life, the days you deliver,” Taylor says. “Obviously we had our differences but right now, it’s nice to focus purely on what’s important and what’s right in front of me, which is celebrating our baby.”
The drama hits its peak at Mikayla’s birthday party, when Whitney shows up unannounced. As Whitney leaves, Mayci tells her how “upset” she is that Whitney wasn’t there to support her when she needed it most. Whitney ultimately decides it’s best for her to leave the #MomTok group, as she wants to be, “surrounded by people who are supporting me and uplifting me.”
Mikayla says that “#MomTok is better off without Whitney." adding: “She wants everyone to kind of chase her and be like ‘No Whitney we love you, come back.’ I’m just exhausted at this point.“
“My parting words for #MomTok? Good luck without me,” Whitney concludes.
What has The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives cast said about a second season?
While there hasn’t been any official confirmation from Hulu about a second season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, some of the moms have teased what could be ahead.
Fans didn’t get much of a chance to see Mikayla with her husband on the show, but she tells PEOPLE that she hopes he would make more of an appearance in season 2.
"Me and my husband are very witty and playful with each other.” she says. “I think he's the funniest person I know, but he's rarely on the show.”
She adds: “He’s like a little onion. We just have to peel him back, and then he'll be calling people out. He's going to cause all the drama."
What would The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season 2 be about?
There are several loose ends that fans are left to grapple with at the end of season 1: With Whitney’s departure from #MomTok, what will be her next move? How will Taylor react to the news of Whitney officially leaving MomTok? Will Jennifer still be a part of #MomTok now that she’s moved to New York with Zac? What exactly is in store for the rest of the remaining #MomTok members?
Along with those questions, the series could also focus on new potential members of #MomTok, who would replace Whitney, and how the dynamic within the group would change.
Even with Whitney’s departure, the bond between #MomTok members still seems to remain strong as several members — including Jennifer — documented their joint trip to Italy on TikTok back in August.
All eight episodes of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives are now available to stream on Hulu.
