A Russian whistleblower was sick after eating in a restaurant on the night before he died, his model mistress has claimed.

Elmira Medynska told an inquest that married Alexander Perepilichnyy, 44, chose a location in the Buddha Bar in Paris where he could see other diners.

Only a day later, he collapsed and died near his mansion in Weybridge, Surrey, after returning home from the two day trip in November 2012.

Miss Medynska, who describes herself as having ‘romantic relations’ with the whistleblower, says she only learnt of his death on New Year’s Eve 2012.

Three months after his death, she received a death threat from his email address.

Miss Medynska claims that the trip to Paris saw the pair going shopping, where she was bought a Prada bag and Louis Vuitton shoes.

After returning to their hotel, they later went for dinner at the Buddha Bar – where Perepilichnyy was on edge.

‘I think he was a little bit stressed’, she told the Old Bailey.

‘I didn’t understand the reason why he was stressed, because it was nearly all French people in the restaurants, very old people.

‘I was feeling very relaxed at this time. I didn’t understand why he was so stressed.’

Mr Perepilichnyy ordered tempura prawns or vegetables, but sent the food back after complaining about it, the inquest heard.

She said: ‘He said that he didn’t like the taste. He was very irritated and mad about the quality of the food.

They returned to the hotel and Mr Perepilichnyy went straight to the bathroom, where she heard him vomit three times.

‘He was clean and a little bit red’, she said of Mr Perepilichnyy after he vomited.

‘I was trying to speak with him to ask how he felt. He said that he felt better.’

Miss Medynska’s comments come as part of the inquest into Mr Perepilicinyy’s death – which remains shrouded in mystery.

He collapsed while jogging at his Surrey home, only a month after helping specialist investment firm Hermitage Capital Management uncover a £150m Russian money-laundering operation.

It was believed that the businessman may have been poisoned with a highly toxic compound found in the plant Gelsemium elegans, also known as ‘heartbreak grass’.

However, a coroner has since confirmed that no toxins were found in his body at the time of his death.
