A stretch of the Dumfries bypass is set to close every night for a week for roadworks.

Amey is set to replace bridge expansion joints on the A75 near Cargenbridge, with work beginning on Wednesday night.

And that will see the road closed every night between 8pm and 6am from January 17 to 22.

An Amey spokesperson said: “This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition and safety of the carriageway structures and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.”

Traffic heading west will leave the A75 at Cuckoo Bridge and take Glasgow Road before turning right onto Galloway Street. Drivers will then follow the A711 to Cargenbridge, turn right onto National Cycle Route number 7 before joining the A75 at the Garroch Roundabout.

Traffic heading east will follow the same route in reverse.

The spokesperson added: “Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.”
