At 3.44pm on Saturday, September 2, East Sussex Fire and Rescue service said it was in attendance and assisting with a gas leak at the junction of Carlisle Road and the A259.
Parts of Carlisle Road and the eastbound carriageway of the A259 had been closed off, according to the service.
Residents had been urged to avoid the area.
