Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s former penthouse apartment in Los Angeles has gone on sale for $1,765,000 (£1.42m).

The former couple, whose recent defamation trial has dominated headlines, lived in the apartment during their 15-month marriage between 2015 and 2016.

The one-bedroom, two-storey penthouse is inside the historic Eastern Columbia Building in downtown LA.

Depp and Heard’s luxurious former home occupies 1,780 square feet, with two bathrooms, high ceilings and city views. It features a rooftop saltwater pool, fitness studio, spa, sundeck, Zen garden and 24/7 concierge service.

Inside, there is dark wooden flooring, a modern kitchen and large, warehouse-style windows, with Art Deco features in the bathrooms.

At one time Depp owned five of the penthouse apartments in the Eastern Columbia building, reportedly moving between the penthouses as if they were one home and adding doorways between three of the units to create a rooftop mansion.

After his divorce from Heard in 2016, Depp listed and sold all five apartments for a total of $12.78 million (£10.3m) . Depp sold this apartment in 2017 for $1,425,000 (£1.1m).

In a six-week court case in April and May this year, Depp sued his ex-wife for defamation, and Heard counter-sued. Depp was awarded $15 million (£12m) in compensatory and punitive damages, while Heard won one of her three counter-claims and received $2 million (£1.6m) in damages.

During the bitter court battle, attention was brought to the one-time couple’s former home, with floorplans of the Eastern Columbia Building’s penthouse level submitted as evidence.

Depp’s friend Isaac Baruch and building manager Brandon Patterson testified on the second day of the trial, with Baruch fondly describing a semi-communal form of living and entertainment at the penthouses.

The turquoise Art Deco Eastern Columbia Building was constructed in 1930 as the headquarters of the eponymous furniture and clothing shops. At the time, the building was allowed to exceed height limits enforced by the city, making its distinctive clock — located directly above the penthouse —visible from a distance.

The property is protected under the Mills Act, a California law which allows local jurisdictions to enter into contracts with private property owners to preserve historic buildings, and offers tax incentives to owners.

Depp owns a private island in the Bahamas called Little Hall’s Pond Cay, five neighbouring homes in the Hollywood Hills — which he reportedly considered connecting with a series of tunnels — and a French village near St Tropez, which he has been trying to sell since 2015. He sold his Kentucky horse farm in 2020, which he purchased twice.

The penthouse apartment is listed for $1,765,000 with Ernie Carswell and Rick Tyberg of Douglas Elliman, Beverly Hills.
