Since marrying Prince William in 2011, Kate Middleton has joined the royal family for the National Service of Remembrance, the formal observance of Remembrance Sunday, at The Cenotaph, a war memorial in London. Every year since, she has watched the service from the Foreign Office balcony, joining other royals in taking in the solemn occasion.
The Princess of Wales often wears three poppies along with her outfit, and while she has never shared the significance behind the number three, it's been speculated that it's because her great-grandmother had three brothers who died in action during World War I: Maurice in 1915, Lionel in 1916, and Francis in 1917. During a visit to the Imperial War Museum back in 2018, she learned more about her relatives.
Here, as Kate appears at the 2024 Remembrance Sunday service, take a look back at her Remembrance outfits through the years.
2023
Kate's most recent Remembrance Sunday look was full of repeats: the bespoke Catherine Walker coat she wore in 2019 and the Philip Treacy hat she first wore in 2006 at Prince William's Sandhurst event (and then again for Remembrance in 2012 and 2017). She accessorized with Queen Elizabeth's diamond and pearl leaf earrings, and her typical three poppy brooch.
2022
For the first Remembrance Sunday following Queen Elizabeth's passing, the newly minted Princess of Wales wore a Catherine Walker coat, earrings that belonged to Princess Diana, and a wide-brimmed hat.
She pinned her three poppies to her jacket with an art deco diamond brooch designed by Bentley & Skinner.
2021
For the 2021 Remembrance Sunday service, Kate opted for a bespoke Alexander McQueen jacket, and Lock & Co hat. She accessorized with her poppy pin, pinning them with a crystal flower brooch from the Royal British Legion.
2020
In 2020, the National Service of Remembrance was socially distanced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Kate wore a Catherine Walker jacket, Philip treacy fascinator, and pearl drop earrings. She brought back her three poppy pin, which she hadn't worn the year previously.

2019
The then-Duchess of Cornwall chose a military-inspired Catherine Walker coat (those shoulders!) and a Philip Treacy hat with a veil—her second time adding a veil over the years. She wore a special pin, deemed the "Codebreaker's Brooch," to honor her grandmother Valerie Glassborrow who worked at Bletchley Park during World War II. She did not wear her classic three poppies this year.

2018
2018's Remembrance Day was a big deal, as it marked the 100th anniversary of the armistice ending the World War I. For the occasion, Kate wore a bespoke Alexander McQueen jacket, a Lock & Co. hat, and a brooch commemorating women of the first World War I pinned her poppies to her jacket.

2017
Kate's fashion at the National Service of Remembrance in 2017 was in line with previous years, but her hair was the big change: Instead of an updo or wearing her hair down, she pinned it, to give the illusion of a bob under her hat. She wore a Dolce & Gabbana coat with gold buttons, Oscar de la Renta earrings, and a Philip Treacy hat she first wore while dating Prince William in 2006.
2016
For the third time at the Remembrance Sunday service, Kate wore a Diane von Furstenberg coat (she wore it in 2011 and 2012, scroll down). She accessorized with her three poppies, a John Boyd hat, and diamond and pearl earrings.
2015
In 2015, the then-Duchess of Cambridge wore an Alexander McQueen coat with velvet trim, a bespoke Lock & Co hat that featured a butterfly, and three poppies on her lapel. She also wore her Kiki McDonough diamond hoops with Annoushka pearl drops, a go-to earring pair of hers.
2014
Kate wore an Alexander McQueen jacket in 2014, coincidentally twinning with Sophie, then the Countess of Wessex, who wore the same coat. Unlike Sophie, however, Kate wore a ruffled dress under her jacket, so the necklines looked slightly different. She repeated the black Jane Corbett hat she wore first in 2011. The Duchess accessorized with an anemone brooch that resembles a poppy, a Mappin & Webb diamond necklace, and Princess Diana's sapphire and diamond earrings.
2013
The Duchess of Cambridge switched up her Remembrance Sunday fashion for the first time in 2013, wearing a Temperley London coat instead of the Diane Von Furstenberg coat she wore in the previous two years. She wore a hat by Sylvia Fletcher for Lock & Co., and her Kiki McDonough hoops with Annoushka pearl drops. Her poppy pin is obscured in this photo, but it's just a one poppy brooch.
2012
Kate repeated her look from last year, wearing a Diane Von Furstenburg coat, albeit with a different hat. She once again chose to wear her Annoushka pearl earrings, and a poppy brooch.
2011
For her first time joining the royals at the Cenotaph memorial, Kate wore a Diane Von Furstenburg coat and Jane Corbett hat, along with Kiki McDonough studs.
