Selena Gomez Cancels Tour to Spend Some Time on Herself

American pop star Selena Gomez has cancelled her upcoming tour of Asia and Australia for personal reasons.

The 20-year-old was scheduled to travel across the continents to promote her recent album Stars Dance.

"My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them," Gomez said in a statement.

She added: "But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be. To my fans, I sincerely apologise and I hope you guys know how much each and every one of you mean to me."

According to People, the Wizards of Waverly Place star wants to spend time with family.

Gomez's mother, who is 37, divorced the singer's father, Ricardo Gomez, when she was only five. Mandy Cornett married Teefey in 2006. The couple were expecting in 2011 but Cornett suffered a miscarriage. In June, the Come and Get It singer welcomed her new baby sister, Gracie Elliot Teefey.

"Selena is fine, she's in a great space," a source close to the singer told People. "She's looking forward to spending the holidays with her family."

"She's been on the road for six months and she's just ready to be normal and at home with her family," the insider added. "She's been working nonstop since she was 15 and wants to take a minute to herself."

Meanwhile, her former boyfriend, Canadian pop star Justin Bieber, announced he was taking a break as a singer. Bieber is to release his forthcoming album Journals on 23 December.

Appearing on Power 106 radio station in Los Angeles, he said: "After the new album, I'm actually retiring man. I'm retiring."

However, he assured that he will return with better music. "I want to grow as an artist and I'm taking a step out, I want my music to mature."
