Update 8/4: Selena Gomez just announced that Rare Beauty will officially be launching on September 3 at Sephora and on RareBeauty.com. "I’ve had so much fun creating everything and can’t wait for y’all to try it all! I hope you love it as much as I do!" she wrote in an Instagram caption.

A video was also posted on the Rare Beauty Instagram page detailing more of Gomez's makeup and beauty philosophy:

Update 4/13: Selena Gomez just revealed more about her upcoming beauty line Rare Beauty. In an Interview magazine feature, Gomez spoke candidly with comedian and friend Amy Schumer about her life at the moment and upcoming projects. "I wanted to start a conversation about how can you make yourself feel great. It’s not necessarily about needing these things to make yourself feel beautiful," Gomez told Schumer about Rare Beauty. "People of my generation have all this pressure to look a certain way, and I wanted to make a line that took away a bit of that pressure. I use real people in the campaigns."

Rare Beauty will launch with an impressive 48 shades of foundation and concealer, according to Gomez. "It’s all very clean and easy. I wanted people to feel safe," she adds.

Rare Beauty is slated to launch this summer in Sephora stores.

Update 2/4: We first got word of Selena Gomez's ambitions to launch a beauty line back in August 2019. Now we know everything: it's called Rare Beauty, and it's launching at Sephora this summer.

In a video on Instagram, Gomez broke the news that Rare Beauty is launching soon. In just minutes, the @RareBeauty Instagram account hit a million followers. "Guys, I’ve been working on this special project for two years and can officially say Rare Beauty is launching in @sephora stores in North America this summer!" she wrote. The brand shared more of its manifesto on Instagram as well: "Our founder @selenagomez believes everyone is unique and rare. But today, too many people feel trapped by unrealistic expectations that are impossible to achieve. @rarebeauty is about accepting who you are–and finding the beauty in your imperfections."

Gomez narrates the video of clips showing her behind-the-scenes testing and swatching process. So far it appears that the line will include lipsticks, eye products, blushes, and highlighters."Being rare is about being comfortable with yourself," she says. "I think Rare Beauty can be more than a beauty brand. I want us all to stop comparing ourselves and to start embracing our own uniqueness."

If Rare Beauty sounds familiar, that's because Gomez just released a song called "Rare" as well. We don't know more about the products yet, but the star has been wearing bright and bold lipsticks in shades of pink, red, and maroon on recent red carpets and television appearances. Gomez has likely been walking around wearing Rare Beauty for months, and her fans won't have to wait much longer to try it themselves.

Original: Selena Gomez is joining Lady Gaga and Rihanna—not in the recording studio, but in the ever-growing celebrity beauty line space. Women's Wear Daily reports that Gomez filed paperwork with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to create a line of "Selena Gomez" beauty products including “fragrances, cosmetics, skin-care preparations, hair-care preparations, soaps, moisturizers and essential oils."

Gomez is the latest celebrity to join the beauty world, following Rihanna's Fenty Beauty, Lady Gaga's Haus Beauty, Jennifer Lopez's line with Inglot Cosmetics, and Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian's namesake brands.

This isn't the actress and singer's first foray into beauty, though. Back in 2011, she had fans vote on what would ultimately become Selena Gomez Eau de Parfum. "I want something that's very romantic. I want something that is very sweet but at the same time very mature," she told Racked at the time. The winning scent included a fruity raspberry top note, freesia in the middle, and vanilla in the base.

Gomez also has an extensive list of fashion partnerships under her belt. She launched a clothing line dream Out Loud at K-mart stores in 2010. Gomez is currently the face of Coach and collaborated with the brand on accessories and a ready-to-wear collection in 2018. She's also currently the face of athletic brand Puma and is working with them on a line of apparel, shoes and accessories.

Gomez hasn't commented on the new beauty line, but we'll update this post when we know more about the launch date, products, prices, and where to shop.
