Selena Gomez’s mother claims she warned actress against working with Woody Allen

The mother of Selena Gomez has claimed she attempted to dissuade the actor from working with controversial filmmaker Woody Allen.

Last year, Gomez worked with the 80-year-old director on A Rainy Day in New York, an upcoming romantic comedy about two young people spending a weekend in the Big Apple.

However, as the #MeToo movement has gained momentum, attention has once again focused on the allegations made against Allen by adoptive daughter Dylan Farrow dating back to 1992.

The director has denied the allegations but Farrow has publicly renewed those claims several times, last year writing the piece: ”Why has the #MeToo revolution spared Woody Allen?”

Two actors who worked on A Rainy Day in New York — Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Hall — have since donated their salaries to the Time’s Up movement.

Some fans of Gomez have also taken issue with the pop singer’s decision to work with Allen, one even writing a public message to the singer’s mother — Mandy Teefy — on Instagram reading: “Make Selena write an apology about the Woody Allen film.”

To some surprise, Teefy was quick to respond, writing: “Sorry, no one can make Selena do anything she doesn’t want to do. I had a long talk with her about not working with him and it didn’t click. Her team are amazing people.

“There is no fall person here. No one controls her. She makes all her own decisions. No matter how hard you try to advise. It falls on deaf ears.”

Reports have since circulated claiming Gomez “made a significant donation anonymously” to the Time’s Up fund that “far exceeded her salary for the film.” Hall and Chalamat both used Instagram to announce they had donated money.

The Time’s Up legal defence fund was set up by women in the entertainment industry to provide support to victims of sexual harassment at work and has raised more than $16m (£12m) so far.
