Selena Gomez reportedly checks into rehab to ‘focus on her mental health’

Selena Gomez has reportedly returned to rehab after cancelling the remaining dates on her Revival tour.

According to reports, the 24-year-old singer checked into a rehabilitation centre just outside of Nashville, TN, where she is currently receiving treatment as she battles with “anxiety, panic attacks and depression.”

Describing the treatment facility as a “private and quiet place,” but “super intense,” a source explained to US Weekly: “Selena is dealing with lupus, but this break is to focus on her mental health. She can go to a very dark place.”

Selena, who had been on tour for her second studio album Revival since May, announced in August that she would be taking time off from her live performances to deal with the side effects of her chronic autoimmune disease.

“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways,” the starlet told People at the time. “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.”

She continued: “I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off.”

The Disney Channel alum previously checked into an Arizona rehab centre in 2014, and then publicly revealed she had lupus the following year.

“I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke,” she told Billboard. “I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”

During her last break from the spotlight, the Kill ‘Em With Kindness singer revealed to HollywoodLife that she had been writing journals throughout her struggles, and hopes to turn what she’s written into songs once she is ready to return to work.

In the meantime, we will be patiently waiting!
