Selena Gomez is getting real about her past relationships and how they've affected her mental health over the past couple of years.

In a new interview with NPR, Selena Gomez opened up about her song, "Lose You To Love Me" and how it was about saying goodbye to someone.

"I felt like this was a great way to just say, you know, it's done, and I understand that, and I respect that, and now here I am stepping into a whole other chapter," she said.

When the interviewer asked her if she meant Justin Bieber, Selena sort of gave a confirmation by replying with, "You had to get the name in, I get it."

She then got deep about her previous relationships in her life saying that she did experience some emotional abuse.

"It's dangerous to stay in a victim mentality. And I'm not being disrespectful, I do feel I was a victim to certain abuse," she said.

After the interviewer asked her if she meant emotional abuse, Selena confirmed and continued by saying, "Yes, and I think that it's something that — I had to find a way to understand it as an adult. And I had to understand the choices I was making. As much as I definitely don't want to spend the rest of my life talking about this, I am really proud that I can say I feel the strongest I've ever felt and I've found a way to just walk through it with as much grace as possible."

Fans have come out in defense of Selena and they seem to be calling out Justin.

Back in September 2019, Justin admitted in a Instagram post to having "abused all of my relationships" when he was younger.

"I started doing pretty heavy drugs at 19 and abused all of my relationships. I became resentful, disrespectful to women, and angry. I became distant to everyone who loved me and I was hiding behind a shell of a person that I had become. I felt like I could never turn it around."

Justin was 19 around the time they started to reunite again in 2013, so the timeline does seem to line up with their relationship. Selena also said that everything she says in the Rare era should be taken by her point of view.

"I want to be able to tell my story the way that I want to tell it. And all of these things happened, and I wasn't going to deny that, I wasn't going to pretend to put a smile on when it actually was awful — a few of the worst moments of my life. And I don't know if I would have made it. And that's medical reasons, obviously, and emotional reasons. I just had to find a way to claim my story."

Since the interview came out, both Selena and Justin have stayed silent about what was said. Still, it seems like the former couple have taken time to work on themselves and are in a much better place now.
