Selfless volunteers to sleep under flyover to raise crucial funds for Grimsby Food Kitchen
Volunteers are to spend a night sleeping out the flyover to raise funds for the Grimsby Food Kitchen so that it can continue its work helping the vulnerable.
The third annual Grimsby Food Kitchen sleepout will take place on Saturday, November 23, when dozens of volunteers will spend a night sleeping outdoors after spending the day walking the streets of the town.
The food kitchen, which is based on King Edward Street, is run by Cath and Ken Homewood who have dedicated themselves to helping those who are vulnerable in the community for 19 years.

During that time they have fed countless people at the food kitchen, while also helping others to access addiction services and get on the road to recovery, with some of "the guys" making an amazing turnaround in recent years.
Ahead of the event, a fundraiser has been launched by one of their volunteers Carrie-Anne Boylen Smith, who said: "Grimsby Food Kitchen plays such an important role in our local community by providing hot meals for the homeless and less fortunate people of Grimsby Cleethorpes and surrounding areas.
"Cath and Ken offer huge support to anybody struggling with addictions and help and support them on their journey to recovery. Not only that, they provide a safe space with no judgement for the less fortunate and also anybody suffering with loneliness. With the cost of living crisis we are seeing more and more people through our doors so we know how hard it is for people.
"The GFK volunteers have decided to do the sleep out for the third year, but a little bit different. We will be on the streets for 24 hours from 11am Saturday November 23, until 11am Sunday November 24. We will have no money with us for food and drinks, we will be relying on the help of the good people of our town for that.
"We will, by day, be walking the streets of our great town, and then of course be sleeping under the flyover with nothing but cardboard and a sleeping bag. We want to experience just a little of what they do."
Ahead of the event, Cath thanked everyone who has supported the Grimsby Food Kitchen over the years, saying: "We wouldn't be able to do the work we do if it wasn't for the kindness and support of the people of Grimsby and Cleethorpes and we are so thankful to everyone who has donated to us.
"We have been overwhelmed with the support that we have received for the sleepout fundraiser this year and it has really touched our hearts to see how much people are willing to help others who have fallen on difficult times."
