Pre-tournament favourites Algeria must win their final group game against Senegal to have any hope of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.

Having drawn with Zimbabwe and lost to Tunisia, even victory in their final group game may not be quite enough for Riyad Mahrez and company, who will have to hope Group B’s other game sees Zimbabwe win but not by more than they do.

Perhaps the Desert Warriors’ best hope of victory is that Senegal, already qualified as only they and Ghana can claim two wins from two, choose to rest key men including Sadio Mane and Mame Biram Diouf.

But Senegal will be loath to sacrifice the momentum they generated over their first two games – it may be that Algeria have to secure qualification the hard way.
