Senegal will hope to book their place in the last 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations as they face Guinea this afternoon.

The Lions of Teranga were beaten finalists in the last AFCON in Egypt three years ago but are well fancied to go one better this time around, with a star-studded squad.

However, they needed a stoppage-time penalty from Liverpool forward Sadio Mane to get their campaign off to a winning start with a 1-0 victory over Zimbabwe on Monday.

Guinea also have three points in the bag from their opener, with Issiaga Sylla having earned a 1-0 win against Malawi, but they will be expecting a much sterner test here.

Here’s all you need to know about the game...

Senegal vs Guinea team news

Senegal are expected to remain without Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly after both tested positive for Covid ahead of the tournament.

Still, if they can get through to the next round without much of their spine, it certainly paints a promising picture for the knock-out campaign.

Guinea are also struggling with a Covid outbreak, with seven players having tested positive during their build-up, though key players such as Liverpool’s Naby Keita and Roma’s Amadou Diawara were not among that group and featured in the first game.

Senegal vs Guinea prediction

Senegal have hardly been alone among the tournament favourites in starting the group stage slowly but should be better for the 90 minutes under their belt and can all but book a place in the knockout stage.

Senegal to win 2-0.
