Senior US prosecutor fired after 'refusing to take call from Donald Trump’

Donald Trump reportedly fired a top US prosecutor for not taking his phone calls.

Preet Bharara revealed he was removed from his post as a leading federal prosecutor in New York after a series of calls from the President.

He claimed that Trump was trying to “cultivate some kind of relationship” after the pair met at the end of 2016.

However, Mr Bharara said that the “inappropriate” calls had crossed a standard boundary that separates the executive branch from independent criminal investigators.

After refusing to take a third phone call, Mr Bharara claims he was sacked by Trump.

He told ABC News: “The number of times that President Obama called me in seven and a half years was zero.

“The number of times I would have been expected to be called by the president of the United States would be zero because there has to be some kind of arm’s-length relationship given the jurisdiction that various people had.”

The White House has so far not responded to Mr Bharara’s claims.
