Seoul streets packed with revellers shortly before deadly Halloween crush

Video captured the scene as revellers packed the streets of the South Korean capital, Seoul, shortly before a crush that is thought to have killed dozens. Video filmed on Saturday night (29 into 30 October) showed a jovial mood amongst partygoers and others wandering the area. A number of people are feared dead -- possibly dozens -- in crushes in the Itaewon district. More than 100,000 people crammed into the popular nightlife spot on Saturday night in one of the biggest social gatherings since the Covid-19 pandemic started. Footage filmed by a Thai tourist in the country shows large crowds moments before the killer crush erupted. Chaos reportedly unfolded as crowds surged through a narrow street, crushing hundreds of resellers, causing suffocation and what authorities have reported as cardiac arrests. President Yoon Suk-Yeol ordered a disaster response team to go to the Itaewon area.
