Serena Williams expecting first child with fiancé Alexis Ohanian

Serena Williams has announced she is pregnant.

The tennis champion, 35, is expecting her first child with fiancé, and Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian, 33.

Williams announced the news on Snapchat where she showed off her growing bump in a yellow swimming costume.

She captioned the picture: “20 weeks.”

Fans were quick to congratulate the pair on the news, with one joking that Williams being on maternity leave will allow other female players to take a shot at winning Wimbledon this summer.

They tweeted: “Congratulations Serena Williams! Best thing about your pregnancy is that you'll miss Wimbledon so another woman can get the chance to win!”

Another wrote: “I'm UBER excited for Serena Williams!”

A third posted: “Omggggggg Serena is pregnant!!!! Yassssss congrats @serenawilliams.”

Ohanian proposed to Williams in January, 15 months after they started dating.

Speaking about the engagement, she said: “It feels good. I really haven’t thought about it too much, because I wasn’t even really gonna think about it until after the tournament.

“So, I just keep saying, ‘February, I’ll start looking at the bigger picture of my life’. But right now I’m just so focused that this is all I can think about.”

In the same month she defeated her sister Venus Williams to win her seventh title in the Australian Open, and her 23rd Grand Slam singles title.
